The Biocatalysis group is headed by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Anett Schallmey and deals with the application of enzyme-catalyzed reactions for the synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Our research interests include the identification and characterization of new biocatalysts, enzyme optimization by protein design as well as preparative-scale biotransformations. Our focus lies on the application of oxygenases and in the optimization of whole-cell biocatalytic processes.
The Junior Professorship for Biocatalysis of the Institute of Biotechnology at the RWTH Aachen University is one of eight new Junior Professorships at the Faculty of Natural Sciences within the Initiative for Excellence of the RWTH Aachen University.
